Hemorrhoid treatment usually starts with taking steps to relieve the painful symptoms that hemorrhoids may cause. This may involve taking a warm bath several times a day and using hemorrhoid cream in the affected area. Increasing fiber and fluids in the diet, as well as taking stool softeners or fiber supplements, may also help with the symptoms hemorrhoids can cause. Other treatments for hemorrhoids may involve rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, and infrared coagulation. In severe cases, hemorrhoid treatment may require a hemorrhoidectomy (surgery to remove the hemorrhoid).
