Hemorrhoid symptoms are generally mild and often disappear within a few days. Internal symptoms usually include bright-red blood covering the stool, on the toilet paper, or in the toilet bowl. External symptoms of hemorrhoids may include painful swelling or a hard lump around the anus that results when a blood clot forms. Hemorrhoids are usually not dangerous or life-threatening.
